were not fever seasons. Thus, evidencing both a very indistinct acquaintance with what I have written, and greater ignorance of the actual facts, Dr. Lyons labours to prove that I am wrong by quoting official reports from Augor, Mehidpoor, Goona, Sehore, Siderpoor, Deolee, Erinpoorah, and Kherwarrah. The first five places mentioned, which at page 228 of the Gazette he refers to as within the Rajpootana States, are not in Rajpootana! but far away in Central India! For Dr. Lyons' information I again state that during the first famine year, 1868, marked by the absence of the ordinary rainfall, there was throughout Rajpootana much less than the ordinary prevalence of fever, as mentioned in my article published in the July number of the Gazette. The fact is, Dr. Lyons not being sufficiently well acquainted with what I wrote on the subject, has confused the two famine years in Rajpootana (1868-69), and has taken what was written with reference to the former as appiicable to the latter year. I propose, first, comparing the records of the association between want and disease, in other countries, and sec...

The sanitary and medical aspects of the late famine-sickness at Bombay are sufficiently important to engage the attention of epidemiologists in England, both of themselves and in the interests of onr great Indian dependency. Though I could not hope to add materially to the natural history of famine-fever, yet experience in W. India has not been without its special teachings; and this brief reco...
